The mission to decentralise internet file storage is underway.
Decentralised storage platforms store data on peer-to-peer distributed networks. They are alternate file storage solutions to existing cloud storage services like Amazon S3.
Internet file storage is simply the retention of data on a computer or device. We store files on a daily basis, whether on our phone, in social media accounts, email or in web apps at work.
Behind these applications we are using, the data we save and that which is collected, is now generally stored in the cloud for us. …
Every week we are hearing more about data breaches, hacks, identity thefts, you name it. Our personal data and privacy is at risk. What should we do? Delete Facebook? Turn off GPS? Retreat from the online world into the woods? The answer involves learning a bit more about why this happening, taking the right personal steps and then continuing the conversation so collectively we move towards a data paradigm with better outcomes for individuals and businesses.
I’m writing on the topic after the recent avalanche of news in the area and the release of Digital Rights Watch’s (DRW) report titled the The State of Digital Rights. The report discusses our access to and privacy on the internet, and seeks to raise awareness about our digital rights online which it says are an aspect of human rights. It’s certainly timely. I must have walked past the Tower a hundred times. I even worked in the bakery in the building below the tower in my teenage years. But I never really looked up. I never wondered what the Tower was, but now I was curious.
As I researched more about the Market Tower, I began to realise its significance to the Central Market. The Tower was part of the original Grote Street shops built for the Central Market — known back in 1900 as the City Market. The red brick building replaced the old timber and iron sheds that had been there since 1869. …
This Aussie winter I was lucky to migrate north to Europe, spending five weeks travelling through Denmark, Sweden and Norway during an abnormally warm Nordic summer.
I love travel and the perspective its gives you on your home town. As you walk around you notice the differences between where you are and where you are from. As I travelled, I made notes on what I marvelled at, what inspired me, and what I thought would be great to see in my home town of Adelaide, specifically in the city.
Those notes evolved into this article. They are five ideas born from my overseas experience that I believe would progress Adelaide forward, making us an even more fun, attractive and successful city. …
